Haryana to modernize public healthcare system

Nayab Singh Saini, the chief minister of Haryana, announced that the state government has launched extensive projects to modernise its public healthcare system. The main objective is to equip government hospitals with state-of-the-art medical equipment and diagnostic tools so they can compete with upscale private facilities in terms of service quality. The Chief Minister underlined that creating an effective, accessible, and patient-centered medical ecosystem continues to be the state’s top priority while speaking at a high-level review meeting at the Civil Secretariat.

Important state authorities, such as National Health Mission Director R.S. Dhillon, Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, and Health Minister Arti Singh Rao, attended the strategy review meeting. CM Nayab Singh Saini methodically assessed ongoing repair and revitalisation projects at several district hospitals, including those in Ambala, Faridabad, Hisar, Panchkula, Sonipat, and Nuh, during the session. To ensure that everyone in Haryana has access to high-quality healthcare, he directed officials to redesign these civic hospitals to be highly practical and citizen-friendly.

The significant change in Ayushman Bharat recipients’ use of public facilities is a key sign of the public health sector’s improvement. Only 8.83% of program users sought care at public hospitals in the 2024–2025 fiscal year, according to data presented during the conference, resulting in Rs 26 crore in resolved claims. But after specific infrastructure improvements, that percentage increased to 32% in 2025–2026, with the government paying Rs 126 crore in claims. The Chief Minister ordered a tenfold expansion of Civil Surgeons’ financial authority, increasing their independent spending cap from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 10 lakh to maintain this momentum and reduce bureaucratic red tape. This ensures that important maintenance and equipment purchases are never postponed due to administrative approvals. The Hans India
