AIIMS doctors call off strike after SC intervened
The Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) of AIIMS, New Delhi, has called off its 11-day strike, for the Kolkata doctor murder and rape case. This decision follows a directive from the Supreme Court which addressed the incident and broader safety concerns for healthcare professionals across the country.
In a statement, the RDA expressed gratitude to the Supreme Court for its intervention and the formation of a National Task Force to address these urgent issues.
“This decision comes in response to the appeal and direction of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. We extend our sincere appreciation to the Supreme Court for taking cognizance of the RG Kar Medical College incident and addressing the broader issue of safety and security for healthcare workers across the country. We also commend the formation of the National Task Force to ensure that these concerns are addressed promptly and effectively,” RDA AIIMS said.
Although the strike has officially ended, the RDA plans to continue symbolic protests after duty hours until comprehensive safety guidelines are implemented.
“Our primary responsibility. “patient care” remains our utmost priority, and we are dedicated to upholding it. We stand united in our mission. We will continue our struggle through symbolic protest after duty hours till justice is served and implementation of safety guidelines,” the statement added.
Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court had urged the protesting doctors to return to work and assured that no punitive actions would be taken against them.
The nationwide protest, which began on August 12, led to the suspension of outpatient department (OPD) services, though emergency services remained unaffected. CNBCTV18
