Patiala Health Department Asks Youngsters To Be ‘Foot-Soldiers’
The Patiala health department, in first of its’ kind, has asked youngsters to become “foot soldiers” by actively participating in the reporting of any health-related deaths. These may include the child mortality and death due to drug overdose in their vicinity.
On Wednesday the health authorities appealed the masses and asked the youngsters to get them registered as “foot soldiers” and report the deaths through a web portal or by mobile android application. The application has been named as “Foot Soldier of Punjab”.
Patiala Civil Surgeon Dr Harish Malhotra said, “Youngsters between the age group of 16-30 years can register themselves as foot soldiers. They can report the deaths in their vicinity. The reporting of morbidity and mortality will be done by them online. They can report maternal, infant or child death, any drug-related death, uncovered villages for immunization, unattended healthcare condition such as home delivery, or any clustering of diseased cases which requires the attention of health department.
They will be registered as ‘Foot Soldiers’ and would provide an additional source of information to us besides the inputs or information reaching us from our department’s present infrastructure. The names of these soldiers will be kept confidential and they will be awarded points for each authentic and credible reporting while those who will be making best efforts will also be given the certificates and medals by the state government.” – TOI
