India to build 100-bed super speciality hospital in Fiji
The Indian government has committed to build a 100 bed super speciality hospital in Fiji that will also benefit the people of the Pacific.
Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad says discussions began when the Indian Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar visited Fiji in February this year with the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi making the announcement in Papua New Guinea last week.
Professor Prasad says he cannot confirm when and how this will be done as Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is currently in Samoa.
The Acting Prime Minister says India will build the hospital, it will be staffed by the people of India and they will run it for a while and will also provide the equipment.
He says this is not only a significant announcement for Fiji but for the Pacific as well as Pacific Islanders travel to Fiji and India for various medical treatments. Fijivillage
