AIIMS, Bilaspur gets Rs 232 crore infrastructure boost

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation of a number of cutting-edge healthcare and infrastructure projects worth around Rs 232 crore at AIIMS, Bilaspur. “It will lead to a major advancement in expanding access to state-of-the-art medical facilities and services, strengthening the healthcare system and reaffirming the government’s dedication to providing accessible and reasonably priced healthcare in the area,” said an AIIMS spokesperson.

The major facilities the Prime Minister inaugurated included a 1.5 Tesla MRI scanner, procured at a cost Rs 16.8 crore. It would enable the Radiology Department to enhance diagnosis accuracy and shorten patient wait time. The Endocrinology, Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology (ECR) Laboratory set up at a cost of Rs 2 crore would offer specialized testing for immunological, hormonal and metabolic problems.

Another major facility added to the hospital was a Bronchoscopy Suite, which would support both therapeutic and diagnostic bronchoscopy operations, treat respiratory diseases, including lung cancer, fungus infections and tuberculosis. The Prime Minister also inaugurated a pulmonary ICU with 31 intensive care beds, including a 13-bed pulmonary intensive care unit.

Besides, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone of a number of infrastructure projects, including lecture theatres, hostels and faculty and staff quarters. A 334-bed girls’ hostel to be built at a cost of around Rs 44.58 crore and a 204-bedded boys’ hostel to be constructed at a cost of Rs 38.63 crore would offer high-quality lodging facilities for undergraduate students.
