Medical device manufacturing sector has remained nascent, leading to tremendous import dependency. Lack of domestic manufacturing leads to high cost of medical products and services in India. The government of Andhra Pradesh aims to establish country's first medical technology manufacturing park at Vishakhapatnam with a goal to form an internationally recognized manufacturing hub for medical devices, reduce import dependency, make Andhra Pradesh a leader in medical technology exports, generate employment, and contribute to volume-generated cost reduction of medical devices for patients.

Medical devices manufacturing requires certain high investment facilities which are too capital intensive for individual manufactures leading them to either not undertaking production requiring these technologies or sending their products abroad for process up-gradation and value addition. AMTZ would have such facilities in-house to reduce manufacturing process costs, and being located well connected with railways, roadways, waterways, and airways with near-presence of industrial corridors, port and harbor, logistical costs will also reduce. The park will provide for 200-300 modern state-of-the-art independent manufacturing units, each on a ready-to-use plot area of 0.25, 0.5 and 1.0 acre. Facilities included are:

  • Component testing center
  • Electro-magnetic interference laboratory
  • Medical-grade low-vacuum molding, cabinet molding, injection molding centers
  • 3-D designing and printing for medical-grade products
  • Sterilization and toxicity testing center
  • Radiation testing center
  • Gamma irradiation facility
  • Rapid prototyping center
  • Industrial R&D center
  • Incubation center
  • Convention center and expo halls
  • Warehousing
  • Certifying and regulator's office
  • Other facilities commonly required in manufacturing of medical devices

Our roadmap for the next 5 years is ready with year-wise deliverables. First year leads to formation of AMTZ, second year will be utilized by manufacturers to set up their brand-specific interior assembly units. In the third and fourth years, AMTZ intends to saturate the domestic requirement from where we go ahead with exploring the international markets and provide low-cost international-quality medical equipment.
