Skanray has launched Athena 500i, a CE-certified and RoHS-compliant anesthesia workstation, which is a perfect companion to the anesthetist in OT. The workstation is packed with rich features and incorporates enhanced safety, increased patient comfort, and best-in-class usability.

With anesthesia delivery being a mature form of technology, all efforts in this area are now focused on making it safer and more efficient. Athena 500i sports a range of safety features that include color-cum-shape-coded yokes and pipes, Oxygen (O2) reservoir, pressure limiters, color-changing pneumatic visual indicator, and audio alarm. The supply is fed to a five-tube rotameter with low-flow capabilities for delivering O2, air and N2O at flow rates lower than 0.5 L/min.

The anti-hypoxic device (AHD) is diaphragm based and provides ratio control to ensure that a minimum of 25 percent by volume of O2 is mandatorily delivered, keeping O2:N2O ratio at 1:3 at all times. N2O cut-off ensures that N2O is stopped when no O2 is available. The dual-vaporizer mount is designed to ensure that the user cannot turn on two vaporizers at one go.

Athena 500i comes with a single canister, 1.3-kg soda-lime capacity carbon-dioxide (CO2) circle absorber unit. The active bypass feature enables the user to change soda-lime on-the-fly without interrupting the surgery.

Athena 500i is integrated with a mechanical ventilation unit, which can measure pressure and volume delivered via advanced spirometry and has internal auto-correction algorithm. It displays dual waveforms and pressure versus volume (or flow vs. volume) loop. It supports all relevant volume control and pressure control modes along with SIMV-VC, SIMV-PC and pressure support. Features include monitoring of delivered minute volume, spontaneous minute volume and respiratory rate. Electronic auto breath-cut and mechanical blow-off valve provide protection against ventilator-induced lung injury.
